Yeast


Today in science we are learning about yeast is a type of fungi like the type found on blue cheese and it's shaped like an egg but only visible under a microscope. yeast has been around longer than us to see that its living mix warm water and sugar with yeast to see if it's alive. yeast also needs to be woken up from hibernation yeast is all around us it's in the air and yeast is used to make alcohol it's on the skin of grapes so it can make wine and beer the bubbles in beer are carbon dioxide. and it can make ginger.

Spoons​

  • Kettle
  • Bowl
  • Beaker
  • Cloth Sieve 
  • Funnel
  • Plastic PET bottle and cap. 

  • 50ml warm water
  • 1/2 tsp active dried yeast
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 1L cold water
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tsp ginger beer bug.\\

  • In a large bowl, put the sugar and cream of tartar, then add the warm water. 
  • Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water. 
  • Add the ginger beer bug to the large bowl of cold water.
  • Stir well and then pour into your clean bottle.
  • Label your bottle with your group names.
  • Place all the bottles in the class container.
  • Store in a cool, dark place for one week before drinking.
  • Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow. pen the cap bit by bit to allow the air to escape.
